In Matthew 10:24-25 Jesus warns His followers that if the “Head of the house is called Beelzebub ( a devil or evil) that the members of His household will also be looked at and called evil.” Romans 1 says that what is good will be called evil. We are living in days now where we must find a new strength. A strength that is able to be talked against, challenged and lied about. A day of smearing our names…all because we stand for Jesus as Lord and Savior of all people.
Jesus tells us in v. 26, not to be afraid of them. They are against us because they are really against the God of Heaven and are rebellious against His ways. They desire to view God as they choose instead of how He has revealed Himself to the world. Later in chapter 10 Jesus says, “don’t suppose I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did NOT come to bring peace but a sword.”
After this Jesus speaks clearly that our love for Him is to be greater than any other love we have. Just above this He says that whoever acknowledges His before men that He will acknowledge before the Father in Heaven…but if we disown Him He will disown us. Don’t let fear of other people or dismay that you are not liked by everyone or that fact that others will slander you and oppose you, calling even your goodness into question stop you from following and serving God.
Jesus says “do not be afraid of those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” My advice expect people not to like you as you challenge their unbelief and sin…just as Jesus did and don’t le their opposition shatter you…for you are experiencing what your Lord experienced in His life.
